Shershaah Scores On Amazon Prime

Shershaah released a couple of weeks back has scored on Amazon Prime as it becomes the most viewed content on that platform over a two week period. The film is said to have sustained its viewership remarkably well over the two weeks.

Shershaah would have good chances of doing something at the box office in a normal scenario especially in the Delhi NCR and East Punjab belts. In fact with these two areas being more advanced in terms of the audience returning at present, a release even now could have returned good numbers. It would have had higher numbers than Bell Bottom in these areas for sure due to content more appealing to these markets. But Shershaah would have needed a normal scenario across all Hindi markets to have a chance to og overall good numbers and the makers probably could not wait that long so it had to have an OTT release.

There have been many patriotic films made in India but few war films and even less have worked. Border (1997) is the grandfather of all war films by a distance with Uri The Surgical Strike (2019) being the next best. Then there was Haqeeqat in 1965 which was not liked when released in 1965 but did a bit better in the years after but that was mainly as Dharmendra had become a huge star which got it some repeat runs and there was a patriotic song in the film which was hugely popular. So the minor success was not really coming for the film but other points.

Shershaah could have come after Border and Uri - The Surgical Strike but that will never be known. Obviously if satellite does well then success becomes locked but here again war films are not big on satellite going by the results of Uri - The Surgical Strike. The results on digital ensure the film is one of the successful films since the cinemas shut last year and they have been very few.
