BOXOFFICEINDIA "YOU ASKET IT" (2006)

Q.Can you please give the territory by territory verdict on KANK please.
A. It's  Super Duper Hit in Mysore, Super Hit in West Bengal, Hit in Mumbai, Delhi/UP, East Punjab and Nizam, Semi Hit in CI, Average in Rajasthan and Flop in Bihar.

Q.Which film will do better in India and Overseas out of Jaaneman and Don.
A.The common prediction will be Don in Overseas and Jaaneman in India but we will go for the opposite in that Don will gross more in India and Jaaneman more in Overseas.

Q.Why is the media calling KANK a superhit and placing it with films like Krrish and Fanaa when they are bigger hits?
A. It’s hard to say how the media works, maybe they could be talking worldwide instead of just India.

Q. Who is the most succeeded south indian actor in bolly wood. Is it Kamal Hassan, Rajnikant or Chiranjeevi?
A. None of them succeeded but out of the three Rajnikant had the best stint in hindi films.

Q. How much would distributors earn if kank gets to 45 crore business nett .? don't you think it would hardly breakeven?
A. KANK has been given on commission all over the world by Karan Johar and in India it will give a return of 25 crore so distributors get about 4 crore commission and Dharma productions gets 21 crore.

Q. I was looking at KANK overseas collection and K3G overseas collections at your site, Do u think that KANK can pass K3G collections in Overseas?
A. It has already surpassed K3G. This is because although the UK/USA markets have not grown much since K3G, the others like Middle East, Far East and Australia have seen incredible growth for big films.

Q. If Pakistan lifts the ban on indian films do u think it will become second biggest market for indian films.
A. Pakistan as a territory will be about the same size as the Delhi/UP territory

Q. Based on the box office, popularity, respect and charisma pl name 3 biggest actors of all time. As per me it is 1.Amitabh Bachchan 2.Dilip Kumar 3.Dharmendra
A. You could be right. Based on purely box office record Dilip Kumar stands way ahead as his is by far the best box office record with 70% of his films being successes and nearly 50% outright hits.

Q. Shouldn't the verdict of the film given according to global or worldwide box-office reports instead of just the gross of India's Box-office?
A. A couple or trade journals are doing this, thats why they have KANK as blockbuster but we will stick to the domestic market as it is the bread and butter.

Q. Is Lage Raho Munnabhai the biggest hit of the year?
A. Its to early to tell, it has good chances to be No1 in Mumbai circuit as business has been out of this world over the first five days.

Q. What are the chances of Shahid/Amrita Rao starrer Vivaah.
A. Its the white horse this year. It could be anything. The makers have good distribution network and that gives them advantage to get good chain despite the film not being a big budgeted one.

Q. Krrish grossed 175 crore of which 150 crore came in India going by producers and you are trying to say that Lage Raho Munnabhai is going to do more when Krrish is biggest grosser ever.
A. The figures you have look too high. The makers during Koi Mil Gaya also made claims of 100 crore but going by info we have these figures are hard to believe.

Q. Which are the biggest hits for Dilip Kumar and Dharmendra in order?
A. For Dilip Kumar it is Mughal E Azam, Kranti, Ganga Jamuna, Naya Daur and Madhumati. For Dharmendra it is Sholay, Dharam Veer, Aankhen, Phool Aur Pathar and Jugnu.

Q. How much will Don and Jaan-E-Mann will have to do get Hit and Superhit.
A. A share of 23 crore will be Hit and 28 crore will be Super Hit.

Q. Which is the Biggest Hit Between Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna and Main Hoon Naa in India?
A. It’s hard to say as KANK was given on commission all over so there was no risk for anybody losing apart from Karan Johar while MHN was sold to distributors. They are both in hit bracket so it’s hard to say.

Q. Could you please explain the terms India share, India nett, India gross. Similarly overseas share overseas gross
A. Gross is amount collected at ticket counters. Nett Gross is that Gross minus Entertainment Tax. Distributor Share is Nett Gross minus theatre rentals. It’s same for overseas but they don't have E Tax.

Q. Hello i am from Gurgaon can you tell me top five stars in Delhi/UP and East Punjab?
A. In Delhi/UP it is Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Akshay Kumar and Aamir Khan. In East Punjab it is Sunny Deol, Shahrukh Khan, Akshay Kumar and Hrithik Roshan.

Q. Why is that a city success like Kal Ho Na Ho is called hit but others like Dil Chahta Hai and Black are average.
A. Because Kal Ho Na Ho also did well at most A centres which brings in the likes of Jaipur, Barada, Nagpur Chandigarh, Lucknow etc while Dil Chahta Hai and Black did well only in the 5 or 6 metroes. Also Kal Ho Na Ho grossed almost double of Dil Chahta Hai.

Q. How come you are calling Don only a hit, when Farhan Akhtar has called it the biggest hit of his career on T.V?
A. This is just a prediction and it could be right or wrong, only time will tell. Also it will be biggest hit of Akhtar's career as his two previous films were coverage and coverage to losing.

Q. How badly will Salman and Akshay Kumar be effected by losing to SRK with Jaan-E-Mann?
A. Not that much, there will be a few remarks in the trade but it will all be forgotten in time. This is a problem with clashes as the trade loves to pit stars against each other and there can only be one winner. They put the winners on a pedestal and talk bad about the losers but only till the next release.

Q. Do you think that the Tax Free status has made Lage Raho Munnabhai cross Krrish?
A. Not really, Tax Free has only helped in Delhi by giving it an extra 1.50 crore, in Mumbai its about 50 lakhs as the T.F status came a pretty late and in UP its come very late and will only help to add a few lakhs.

Q. How much money Sajid Nadiadwala will loose if Jaan-E-Mann flops at box office?
A. He will loose around 16-17 crores. Some distributors might loose heavily.

Q. Which film is the biggest hit of Hrithik Roshan career?
A. Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham but in a major role it has to be Kaho Na Pyaar Hai.

Q. Is OMKARA still a flop? And why?
A. Omkara is a flop because it lost money in all circuits apart from Delhi/UP, East Punjab and Mysore and even in these circuits , it did not make any money but just about recovered costs. Its all India distributors lost about 2 crore.

Q. When Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna was released, straight away you were talking about records and now with Don which also has big release with many screens and great opening you are not talking records. Is it because KANK was big banner Karan Johar film and Don is not.
A. It has nothing do with what banner it is. Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna had no competition and its first week had holidays and even though Don's first week has holidays, its lost 25-30% business on an important day like first Saturday as less people go to cinemas on Diwali. Also talking about records is not important, MAKING them is.
